Last week, I visited the school garden with Teacher Carol’s P-1 class, as they were learning about the different types of fruits and vegetables that grow there. The students were very excited to see the progress of the plants whose seeds they planted earlier in the year. It was also a great opportunity for the students to show off to me their improving English skills. We found tomato, watermelon, cabbage, yam, and pumpkin plants, as well as papaya, passion fruit, and banana trees growing in the garden. In an agricultural society like Uganda’s, it is very important that children and adults alike are kept up-to-date with modern agricultural methods so that they can make the most of their land. It was a good lesson and a fun day!

Look at that baby watermelon!

The boys loved the cabbage plant!
